Collection: Soda-Fired Pottery

All of these pieces were fired to 2300 degrees F using only wood in the soda kiln at Mark’s home in Constantine, Michigan. For more than 20 hours straight, the kiln is stoked every 8 to 12 minutes.

The effects on the surface of this pot are a result of the kiln's flames flowing around the piece like water throughout the firing. Soda is added when the kiln is at peak temperature and carried by the flames to collect on the surface of the pots, melt, and then harden to form a glaze.
